Nau Mai – Haere Mai
Welcome to Tohu Travellers
What “Tohu” Means to Us
In our Māori language, Tohu means “a sign”—a gut feeling, a gentle nudge, a moment of serendipity. Over time, we’ve come to trust these signs. Some of our best adventures began with a wrong turn, a cancelled plan, or a spontaneous decision. Following those feelings has taken us to places we never expected but always needed.
At Tohu Travellers, we love Aotearoa – New Zealand and want to share what makes it so special, alongside global travel insights gathered from our journeys around the world. Whether you’re after travel inspiration, van life tips in Aotearoa, or practical advice to help you plan your next adventure, you’ll find it here.
We’ve travelled through many countries—sometimes solo, often together—and each journey has taught us something worth passing on. From detailed itineraries to unexpected detours, our stories reflect what travel is really about.
When we write about a destination, it’s grounded in personal experience and thoughtful research—offering guides that are both useful and real.

Kia ora from the breathtaking landscapes of Aotearoa – New Zealand!
We’re Toni and Tania, partners in life and adventure.
For half the year, you’ll find us in our campervan, cruising the coastlines, fishing, diving for kai moana (seafood), hiking scenic trails and connecting with like-minded travellers across Aotearoa. It’s a life we love – one that lets us follow the tohu (the signs), slow down and soak up the beauty of home.
The other half? That’s when we spread our wings a little further. Our overseas journeys are all about soul food, meeting locals, embracing new cultures and seeking out epic hikes in places like Thailand, Croatia, or wherever the winds (and cheap flights!) take us. Whether we’re watching the sun rise over the Southern Alps or set on a tropical beach, chasing those golden moments is always high on our list.
At the heart of it all is a love for good kai, rich culture and those simple, unforgettable moments that make travel so rewarding.
