Note on Freedom Camping in Rotorua
Rotorua is welcoming to self-contained campervans and motorhomes, but there are very specific rules in place. From 7 June 2026, only vehicles certified as self-contained will be allowed to freedom camp on Council land. 🚐 That means having a fixed toilet, wastewater and water supply systems, sink, ventilation and rubbish storage. Keep updated here.
