An Important Arrival Warning for Travellers
This is one rule that catches travellers out, and it’s important to know before you arrive.
Power banks are strictly checked when entering China, and the rules are enforced.
Carry-On Only
Power banks:
- Must be carried in hand luggage
- Are not allowed in checked luggage
- Will be removed from your bag during security screening
This applies at airports and other transport hubs.
CCC Certification Is Mandatory
Your power bank must display a visible CCC (China Compulsory Certification) mark on the back.
- If your power bank has CCC marking, it will be allowed
- If it does not have CCC marking, it will be confiscated immediately
- Confiscated power banks cannot be returned
There is no appeal process once it is taken.
What to Do Before You Travel

Before leaving for China:
- Check the back of your power bank
- Look specifically for CCC certification
- If it’s missing, leave it at home
Buying a compliant power bank before travelling is far easier than losing one at the airport.
Why This Rule Exists
China applies strict safety standards to battery-powered devices. The checks are routine and not personal.
Knowing the rule in advance avoids stress and unexpected losses.
Final Tohu Tip
A power bank is useful when travelling in China — just make sure it meets the requirements. A quick check before departure can save you frustration on arrival.
